STAUNTON, VA - The Mary Baldwin University women's basketball team lost to Methodist University 42-66 on Saturday and N.C. Wesleyan College 48-68 Sunday afternoon.
On Saturday, the Fighting Squirrels struggled offensively scoring just 14 points in the first half. Mary Baldwin came back in the second half but it was simply "too little too late"as the Monarch's improved their record to 6-15 behind Christian Sanders' 23 points. Anna Ramirez came off the bench to lead Mary Baldwin with 15 points. Nicole Blackburn had a game-high 13 rebounds while Khai Davidson followed closely with 12 boards.
On Sunday, Mary Baldwin jumped out early to lead the Battling Bishops 17-11 after the first quarter and take a two point lead into the locker room at the half.
The Battling Bishops tied the game twice in the third quarter before taking the lead at the 5:42 minute mark when Kechae Parker made a layup off of a Mary Baldwin turnover. Mary Baldwin remained within striking distance until the final quarter when N.C. Wesleyan was able to pull away.
N.C. Wesleyan College was led by Nadiya Holley's 14 points and Weslie Young's 8 rebounds.
Aayana Nedd led Mary Baldwin with a season-high 22 points. Nicole Blackburn finished with a double-double scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Khai Davidson finished the afternoon with a game-high 11 rebounds.
Mary Baldwin University, 2-20 (0-11), are on the road for the final week of regular season play.
