Mary Baldwin basketball (2-15, 0-6 USA South) was defeated by the Monarchs of Methodist University (4-13, 2-4 USA South) on Wednesday evening by a score of 79-48.
The Fighting Squirrels were competitive throughout the first half of the game, down by 2 at the end of the first quarter and tying the game at 20 points apiece midway through the second quarter. By the end of the half, however, Methodist had begun to pull away, leading by 14 at the break.
In the second half Mary Baldwin was outscored 43-26, and the Monarchs took the victory. The Fighting Squirrels had 20 turnovers in the loss and allowed four Methodist players to score double figures, including Christian Sanders who recorded a double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Sophomore Squirrel Anna Ramirez led Mary Baldwin in scoring with 14 points off the bench. Khai Davidson, a freshman, had 8 points and a game-high 15 rebounds for MBU.
The Squirrels will try to return to the win column this weekend, playing at Greensboro College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
