Tennis Battles William Peace in Tight Match

The Mary Baldwin University tennis team continued USA South Conference play over the weekend.

On Saturday, the Fighting Squirrels hosted the Cougars of Averett University losing 0-9.

On Sunday, Mary Baldwin played William Peace University in their closest match of the season.

The Fighting Squirrels jumped out to a 2-1 win after doubles play.  At the #2 slot, Azaria Marlowe and Esperanza Cadena won 8-4 while Shaina Riddle and Jacqueline Cottingham won at the #3 slot by default.  William Peace took the top doubles spot defeating Alayah Austin and Sakurako Ishii 8-1.

In single's play, Jacqueline Cottingham won by default at the #6 spot to give Mary Baldwin a 3-1 lead.  William Peace then went to work winning the 2, 3, 4, and 5 singles matches to win the match 5-3.  The #1 match between Alayah Austin and Alexandra Dixon was not finished.

Mary Baldwin University, 0-10, continue play on Thursday against Bridgewater College in a non-conference matchup.
