Tennis Battles Top Teams This Weekend

STAUNTON, VA - The Mary Baldwin University tennis team continued play over the weekend taking on two of the top teams in the USA South East Division.

On Saturday, the Fighting Squirrels battled the Avenging Angels of Meredith College.  The preseason #3 seed defeated Mary Baldwin 9-0.

On Sunday, Mary Baldwin hosted Methodist University.  Methodist was picked first in the East Division in the preseason coaches poll.  The Monarchs swept the Fighting Squirrels 9-0.

After the match, Head Coach Paul Yee said, "We were more consistent and placed the ball better in our rallies.  I like our improvement."

Having now played the top three teams in their division, the Fighting Squirrels will host Averett University on Saturday this week and travel to Hollins University on Wednesday for a non-conference matchup.
