Sophia Stone Qualifies for National Championships

Staunton, VA - By winning the South/Southeast Regional, Sophia Stone has qualified to compete in the National Championships on Saturday in Winneconne, Wisconsin near Oshkosh.

The Sophomore from Pacific Palisades, CA goes to Wisconsin having won all but one race this season while rewriting the record books at Mary Baldwin College.  She was named USA South Cross Country Runner of the Year and set a new course record of 22:32.32 when she won the conference championship on October 29.

"Sophia's winning the region is so impressive!  I knew she was top three material and stood a chance to win the race," stated Head Cross Country Coach and Athletic Director Sharon Spalding.  "Our only concern was that she had led and won every race except Salisbury and that Regions would only be her second true race.  Sophia proved she knows her race pace and can push to finish strong."
